Working with local business, Conlon Ltd

Started in 1980 as a family run business, Conlon, based in Cricklade has been a local success story, employing more than 240 staff and recruiting around 60% of its workforce locally. This achievement saw it shortlisted as one of the London Stock Exchange Group’s 1000 Companies to Inspire in 2017, a programme which celebrates the fastest growing and most dynamic SMEs in Europe. The firm also has a commitment to developing its staff. What does this mean in practice? We asked Conlon’s Director, Dermot Conlon.

“It’s a priority for us to employ a locally-based workforce to support the regional economy wherever possible. Even more so for our workforce to be long-established and well-trained, so we can ensure the quality of our work is consistent for all clients, and we can trust in and rely on our staff to deliver at a high level."

"Apprenticeships are also crucial as they help us to maintain growth and expansion, with a workforce coming through for the future.

We are a family business and our growth is less about being profit-driven and more aimed at being satisfaction-driven. You need a good workforce to deliver a good job, and to maintain client satisfaction.”

This focus on local recruitment has meant that of the 29 members of the Conlon team onsite at Oakfield, 25 of them live within a 20-mile radius. They’re commitment to taking on apprentices will also give local people a chance to kickstart a new career in the construction industry, using the latest technology to learn all the skills they’ll need.

If you’re interested in a career in construction and would like to be considered for an apprenticeship with Conlon, please contact Shaunagh Conlon at enquiries@conlon.co.uk or on 01793 759328.
